Examples of Success

Case 1: Inverse Emulsion

A customer using an 8% active, high molecular weight solution polymer in bulk quantity experienced costly product handling and logistics issues.
Concept: Convert this product into an inverse emulsion form to increase activity.
Result: A low bulk viscosity, 40% active emulsion was successfully launched. Customer's logistics problems solved by only handling 1/5 of the original volume. Savings through shipping cost reduction.

Case 2: Cross Linked Inverse Emulsion

A customer using an AMPS containing dry polymer dispersion in an organic medium experienced product instability.
Concept: Redevelop this product as an inverse emulsion polymer targeting improved stability and product cost.
Challenge: A stable emulsion could be achieved, however, the product could not meet the performance criteria.
Approach: Worked with the customer to modify the chemistry to meet the performance target.
Result: A new emulsion composition was successfully developed and commercialized. Customer received an improved product while the developer received an improved profit margin. Patent applications were filed to protect both parties.
Opportunity: Expand this technology into other polymer compositions.

Case 3: Membrane Filtration/Purification

A customer using an ampholytic conditioning polymer had limited applications potential due to low polymer solids and high impurity content.
Concept: By taking advantage of viscosity characteristics of the polyampholyte, we could apply membrane technology to purify and concentrate the product.
Result: Three-fold increase in active polymer content and removal of >95% of the impurities without increasing the product bulk viscosity.

Case 4: Freeze Proof Emulsions

A customer using an emulsion had continual pourability problems as a result of low temperature.
Concept: Modify carrier oil and surfactant system while maintaining existing polymer chemistry.
Result: Developed and commercialized an emulsion pourable at temperatures of -30C with comparable end use performance.
